Plurality
Plurality is the book ⿻ Plurality: The Future of Collaborative Technology and
Democracy by Audrey Tang, Glen Weyl and contributors — and the movement behind it.
Neither monism nor dualism but pluralism: technology that turns diversity from
a source of conflict into a source of collaboration.
Why I am involved
I encountered a draft of the book in April 2023, and read its key technology,
broad listening, as an augmentation of our
capacity to understand one another — that is, as an extension of my long-standing
axis, improving intellectual productivity for
the progress of civilization. Believing this technology is a key to that progress,
I work on both the book's translation and the social implementation of its ideas in Japan.
Record of practice
- April 2023: Encountered the Plurality draft; joined Plurality Tokyo (April 12, 2023) — active in Japan's Plurality community from its earliest days
- 2023: Continued involvement in community events such as Plurality Tokyo Salon (July, October); translated Audrey Tang's keynote into Japanese
- 2024: ⿻ Plurality: The Future of Collaborative Technology and Democracy published — participated as one of its contributors and editors (the book is CC0 open source, written on GitHub)
- May 2025: The Japanese edition, PLURALITY, published by Cybozu-shiki Books — led the localization project
- May 2025: Tokyo Plurality Week — Audrey Tang and Glen Weyl visited Japan for the launch events (including one at Keio University's X Dignity Center), a milestone for the movement in Japan
- 2025–present: From ideas to implementation — bringing Plurality's technology into Japanese society through broad listening practice in the Digital Democracy 2030 project
